How do I know GrowTrax™ will work in my climate?
GrowTrax™ for the UK uses a specially selected UK Blend of cool-season grass seeds designed to perform well in typical UK weather. The blend includes Tall Fescue, Perennial Ryegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, and Creeping Red Fescue, which are commonly used in UK lawns and grow well in sun, shade, and cooler climates.
Is GrowTrax™ affected by wind?
YES: Laying seed or GrowTrax™ in windy conditions isn’t recommended, rather wait for a day when its calm, if you live in an area that’s prone to wind, give your prepared ground a good watering the night before you install GrowTrax™ this will increase the ‘tacking’ properties, as a further precaution against windy days put a small amount of soil along the edge of GrowTrax™ that faces the wind, this is to stop wind getting under the sheet, the new grass will grow up through this soil.
Will GrowTrax grow on sand?
Yes. But because sand doesn`t have many natural nutrients it’s recommended to mix in some topsoil when loosening the surface then fertilize every spring and fall. The GrowTrax will produce great results as the roots can grow freely and deep
Will GrowTrax grow on Clay?
Yes but clay is very dense, so we recommend to blend some topsoil into the top 2” and then lay GrowTrax. Once established it will thrive in your soil or clay conditions.
How do I prevent birds from eating the seeds?
Most of the time GrowTrax will protect the new seed from birds but if they become a problem we recommend spreading out a thin layer of top soil or dirt on top of the GrowTrax. Note that while it may seem that birds are eating all the seeds, there are tens of thousands of seeds in GrowTrax and from our experience the birds do very little damage. Another option that works well is to use a motion sensor sprinkler to deter birds and other potential pests like racoons.

GrowTrax™ UK Blend is designed to grow well in a variety of lawn conditions, including areas with both sun and shade. The specially selected seed mix helps create a thick, healthy lawn across different parts of your garden.
Do I need to add nutrients to the soil before planting GrowTrax™?
GrowTrax™ contains seed, fertilizer and mulch so extra nutrients aren’t necessary, do not lay GrowTrax™ over any existing grass or vegetation, GrowTrax™ must touch the soil it is to grow on, so clear all old grass vegetation, loosen the top 2 inches of soil with a rake and create a smooth surface free of any debris, if you want to add mulch or topsoil (not necessary) make sure you till into the existing soil, GrowTrax™ works best when touching actual soil rather than mulch
When to plant GrowTrax?
Spring and early autumn are the best times to plant GrowTrax™ in the UK. These seasons provide mild temperatures and natural moisture that help the UK Blend seeds germinate and establish strong growth. Avoid planting during very hot, dry periods or when the ground is frozen.
How often should I water Growtrax?
We recommend watering 2–3 times per day until the grass has fully grown in. The goal is to keep the Bio Fabric consistently moist during the germination and establishment period — this helps ensure healthy, even growth. Once your grass is established, you can transition to the recommended watering schedule for your local area and climate conditions.

Germination typically takes 10–14 days, which is when you’ll begin to see small green sprouts emerging. By around weeks 3–4, your grass should reach about 3 inches tall and be ready for its first mow. Growth time may vary slightly depending on climate, temperature, and watering consistency.

Does GrowTrax™ have an expiry date?
Each roll of GrowTrax™ has a unique seed label adhered to the roll, this gives detail of the exact seed varietal and fertilizer, there is also an expiry date, this is a US agricultural requirement, in independent tests most seed is still viable two to three years after this ‘expiry date’, in addition GrowTrax™ has more seed per foot than the industry prescribed seeding rate so even if some of the seeds failed to germinate there are many more than normally applied per sq ft.
Is GrowTrax safe for pets?
GrowTrax is safe for pets because it`s real grass. We recommend keeping pets off the GrowTrax until the grass has grown 3 inches. If pets will be outside, we recommend sectioning off an area for GrowTrax and an area for pets to play and do their business. Once the GrowTrax has grown in, reverse the sequence and block off the next area for GrowTrax to grow.

What kind of seed is in GrowTrax™?
Not all grass seed is created equal, the quality of the actual seed is reflective in the quality of the grass to be grown; GrowTrax only uses premium weed free UK Blend seed./
Is GrowTrax™ OK to use on slopes or hillsides.
GrowTrax™ was initially invented for erosion control and strong growth on slopes and hillsides, the seed and fertilizer stays exactly in place and won’t get washed away, the Bio Paper holds onto water (6x) right next to the seed…normally growing seed on slopes doesn’t work because irrigation or rain wash the seed and fertilizer down the slope.
Do I need to peg or staple GrowTrax™ to the ground?
GrowTrax™ naturally ‘tacks’ to the ground after watering so typically doesn’t need pegs to hold it down, however if you live in a windy area make sure you water the prepared ground the night before installing GrowTrax™ this will increase the ‘tacking’ properties, as a further precaution against windy days put a small amount of soil along the edge of GrowTrax™ that faces the wind, this is to stop wind getting under the sheet.

Can I install GrowTrax over an existing lawn?
Ideally you should start with bare turned soil but some people have had good success ‘scalping’ their existing lawn and laying GrowTrax over the stubble and watering vigorously so GrowTrax breaks up and mulches into the stubble. (Scalping is achieved by setting the lawnmower really low so it cuts down to bare brown stubble).
